Jessica Bagnall of Feminspire expresses some hope that the rape and murder of Jill Meagher may have brought about a fundamental shift in attitudes toward sexual violence:
All of Australia seemed to collectively mourn the loss of someone that wasn’t even in the spotlight—but she was someone we could all relate to. It seems as though, suddenly, we realised—this could have been us, our sisters, our friends. This could have been one of us. And it’s brought such a wave of realisation with it that my Facebook feed seems strangely devoid of classless rape jokes.
